We define ‘evaluation’ broadly to include monitoring, reviews, assessments, self-, internal-, external and independent evaluation at any stage before, during and after interventions, as well as evaluation in the context of institutions and other systems, from local to global level.

Although we welcome posts in the following themes, others are not excluded:

1. Evaluation for the SDGs:  Evaluation with specific reference and relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2. Made in Africa Evaluation:  Ideas and innovations specific to African knowledge systems and ways of thinking and doing. Exploration of the African context, values and culture in evaluation. An original evaluation theory or practice from Africa.
3. Evaluation Methodology: Nifty ideas, smart improvements, and innovations in evaluation theory and practice that are not relevant to Theme 2.
4. Government and Governance: Evaluation by, within and of Government. Government accountability. The role and contributions of evaluation in the relationship between civil society and government.
5. Influences, Trends and Implications:  Trends in or influences on development and evaluation, and their implications for evaluation theory and practice. Included are for example technology, big data, impact investing, public-private partnerships, climate change, geopolitics or the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
6. Evaluation Use and Impact: Aspects of evaluation demand and supply. Interesting case studies, findings and breakthroughs that showcase or debate the use, value or impact of evaluation in Africa. Examples of evaluation use, including process use, and learning, for example for adaptive management, improvements, accountability and knowledge generation.
7. The Evaluation Profession: Challenges and solutions for evaluation as profession in Africa. Examples include issues of evaluation quality, capacity or encouraging use; debates around professionalisation, ethics and contracting; new entrants into the field; and cross-disciplinary and cross-sector engagement.
6. Issues of interest not noted above.
